  • You can pull out unwanted stitches at any stage during embroidery. Removed thread cannot be used again.

  • Start embroidering at the inner part of a design, such as veins in leaves or in the centre of a flower.

  • The outline of designs should be highlighted with darker colours to give definition.

  • Washing will shrink the fabric and hold the stitches tighter.

1
Select material, design, carbon paper and tracing paper.
2
Trace chosen design onto the tracing paper.
3
Pin traced design to front of material. When using designs with words, ensure lettering can be read as normal.
4
Place carbon paper facing back of fabric.
5
Re-draw over the design on the tracing paper. The design will appear on the opposite side of the material.

Multi-Stranded Threads

If you are using stranded threads for a small needle, you only need one strand, so the thread must be separated first.

This procedure begins by extending the stranded thread to its full length.
Then simply pull one end of the six strands and wind it onto a floss bobbin.
Continue pulling the thread while keeping the rest of the strands tangle-free. Don't worry when the remaining strands bunch up, as they will untangle when the single strand comes out. Repeat this procedure with the remaining strands, winding them on to the same bobbin.
